Personal Statement

My name is Beverly Webster.  I have been attending Chesapeake College to pursue a career as a Technology major in Micro-Computer Applications.  I returned to school in the spring of 2015 after 25 years.  I chose the Micro- Computer Applications Specialist degree, because it was close to the degree that I was pursuing back in 1986. That degree would have been an AAS degree as a Micro-Computer Programmer. I chose to come back to finish a goal that I set for myself many years ago.

One of the words that I would use to describe myself is determined.  I am determined to reach my goals. I am determined to study hard and get good grades. Sometimes I have had to stay up late and get up early just to get an assignment done.  Reaching this goal has not been easy but it has definitely been worthwhile.

When I came back I felt uneasy being in classrooms with students that are my son’s age.  As time went on it didn’t faze me anymore.  We are all here for the same thing to get an education and earn a degree.

This has been a great journey for me, one that I will always remember. The people that I met along the way, and have become friends with. The teachers that are so caring and helpful.  The Academic Support Center that was there when I needed tutoring in Math and Composition.

I would not change anything that I have done because this was the right time for me to do this.  I wouldn’t have had the time to pursue this degree before, because of marriage and raising a family.

There is still so much ahead for me and I will keep on reaching for my dreams.
